Accident Report

March 23, 2026, a passenger was injured in a rollover truck accident at about 1:30 p.m. along Burr Oak Road.

According to authorities, two men—a 72-year-old driver and a 63-year-old passenger—were traveling in a northbound Peterbilt truck on Burr Oak Road approximately five miles west of Skidmore when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the truck veered off of the left side of the road where it apparently overturned.

The passenger reportedly sustained moderate injuries over the course of the accident. It does not appear that the driver was hurt. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to single-vehicle truck accidents, many people jump to conclusions and assume that the driver must have been distracted or fatigued. While that is a possibility, it’s no sure thing. I’ve analyzed hundreds of single-truck accidents over the years. Because of that, I’ve learned not to make assumptions before the facts from the investigation have been released.

To be clear, I don’t know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to suggest a hypothetical situation. You can leave a comment letting me know if you think this is too unlikely, but what if the truck suffered from tire failure, and that was the reason it veered off of the roadway? Also, was the truck’s load properly secured? The load shifting unnecessarily could have contributed to the overturn, as well.

Hopefully the authorities who are in charge of investigating this accident take the time and put in the effort necessary to get a vehicle inspection done. Though it’s not routinely done in most accident investigations, perhaps a special request can be made. That’s how any underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects will be exposed.

If, for some reason, the authorities fail to get one done, a third party investigation can always take that step just to make sure that all the bases are covered. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to know the truth backed by hard evidence, not just vague assumptions.
