Chesterfield County, SC — March 18, 2023, a driver was killed after an accident where a vehicle crashed with a tractor-trailer on US 601.
Officials said that the incident happened in the area of State Line Road at around midnight. It appears a Chevy van was going northbound along the highway when a tractor-trailer attempted to make a u-turn. As the truck made the turn, the two vehicles collided.
Right now, the driver of the van has not been identified. They died as a result of the collision. The truck driver had unspecified injuries. Additional details are unavailable at this time.

A key detail missing from reports I’ve seen is where this truck was exactly and what direction they were going. Frankly, there’s virtually no way to conduct a safe u-turn behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle. But there’s a big difference between someone rear-ending a slowing tractor-trailer and an oncoming tractor-trailer cutting into the path of oncoming traffic. So what exactly happened here, and are authorities at least looking into this more thoroughly than these current reports suggest?
