Accident Report
March 14, 2026, a man lost his life in a single-car accident at approximately 4:30 p.m. along Buddy Owens Boulevard (F.M. 1924).
According to authorities, a 28-year-old man from McAllen was traveling in a westbound Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck on Buddy Owens Boulevard approaching the Glasscock Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the pickup truck was involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a road sign.
The man reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s always difficult to read about single-vehicle crashes, because I know from my professional experience just how devastating these crashes can be. Most people wrongly assume that if there’s one car involved in the crash, “it must have been the driver’s fault.” I’ve seen how hard this attitude hits surviving family members, how they feel like no one is taking the time to rule out other possibilities.
I’m sure some of you are thinking, “Other possibilities, Mike?! You have to be kidding.” If you’re one of those people, I’d point out that early reports don’t mention anything about the vehicle’s tires. What if there was a tire blow-out? In that case, drivers often find themselves in situations where they’re just along for the ride, through no fault of their own. What if the driver was cut off by another car that fled the scene? It would look like a single-vehicle accident, but in fact be a multi-vehicle crash. When you’re dealing with a specific crash, not generalizing about crashes, all sorts of odd causal factors must be considered.
I’m not putting out these theories to give anyone false hope, rather as flashing yellow caution light that people generally need to slow down after a crash like this and let the investigation run its course. A thorough investigation will consider these possibilities and go where the evidence takes them. If the initial investigation doesn’t consider alternative explanations, if investigators don’t even rule out these other scenarios, then it might be appropriate for a third-party investigation to take over.
At the end of the day, the least anyone who loses a loved one in a fatal crash deserves is answers to all their questions. If you disagree, that’s why I have a comments section.
