According to authorities, two people—a 35-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man—were traveling in a westbound Kenworth truck on I-44 in the vicinity east of State Highway 97 when the accident took place. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been in this line of work for over three decades. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of single-truck accidents. Because of that, I’ve learned not to jump too quickly to conclusions, especially without knowing all the facts from the investigation. Others might be quick to blame the driver, but I know that just because driver error is a prevalent cause in truck accidents does not mean that it is the only possibility. Personally, I want to know more about the truck itself.

Had it been getting the regular maintenance it required? Were any vehicle inspections skipped? Was there a possible mechanical malfunction that somehow got missed? What about any underlying product defects? Did they somehow fly under the radar until it was too late? The only way we will know is if the authorities are thorough enough to get an in-depth inspection done on the truck. That will answer all these questions, and then some. If, for some reasons, they don’t take that step, then a third party investigation can do it, instead, just to cover all the bases.

When push comes to shove, the people affected by this accident deserve to have all the accurate details backed by solid evidence. An incomplete picture full of gaps does no one any good and keeps closure out of reach.
