Dawson County, TX — May 2, 2024, Rex Zant was killed and another person was injured in a car accident just before 3:00 p.m. along U.S. Highway 87.
According to authorities, 89-year-old Rex Zant was traveling in a southeast bound GMC Acadia SUV on U.S. 87 at the C.R. L intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Toyota Camry occupied by a 37-year-old man on C.R. L failed to yield the right of way to highway traffic at a stop sign, entering the intersection at an apparently unsafe time. This resulted in a collision between the two vehicles.
Zant sustained reportedly fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. The man from the Toyota suffered severe injuries, as well; he was transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment.
Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
