As open-and-shut as these details may seem, something stands out to me. I have to wonder if authorities noticed it too. Simply put, the fact only one person here was hurt—seriously so—deserves attention. While not exactly common, it could be a sign of a serious vehicle defect.

For example, I handled a case not long ago where authorities overlooked a seatbelt defect. The driver in that crash suffered injuries far more serious than the severity of the crash would typically result in. While police didn’t pay any mind to that, our independent inspections discovered the defect, explaining why the victim was seriously injured.

Maybe that isn’t what happened here, but it should be a point of concern if authorities don’t at least consider vehicle inspections. Even if there was nothing wrong with the victim’s vehicle, that oversight can be a sign that other important factors are being overlooked, as well.
