Smith County, TX — June 16, 2024, Phillip Harris and four others were injured following a car accident at approximately 2:45 p.m. along U.S. 69.

According to authorities, 23-year-old Phillip Harris, and two other men ages 21 and 26 were traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Impala on U.S. Highway 69 at the County Road 431 intersection when the accident took place.

Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a westbound Jeep Cherokee occupied by a 20-year-old woman and a 1-year-old girl on C.R. 431 attempted a left turn to head southbound on U.S. 69 at an apparently unsafe time, failing to yield the right of way to highway traffic at a stop sign. This resulted in a collision between the front-end of the Jeep and the front-right side of the Impala.

Both Harris and the 20-year-old from the Jeep suffered reportedly severe injuries as a result of the wreck. The child from the Jeep and the two other men from the Impala also sustained moderate injuries, according to reports. They were each transported to local medical facilities in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
