Accident Report
Jackson County, MO — March 30, 2026, one person was injured in a car accident at about 10:10 a.m. on Interstate 70/Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway near Oak Grove.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a westbound 2007 Mercury Montego crashed into a 2012 Acura that was slowing for traffic near mile marker 27.6, starting a chain reaction that also damaged a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2025 Freightliner semi-truck.
The Mercury driver, a 92-year-old man from Buckner, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.
The other three drivers were not hurt, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Jackson County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It would be easy to point the finger at the Mercury driver for causing this crash, but what if his car had a blown tire a problem with its brakes that prevented it from stopping? What if the Acura didn’t have working brake lights to indicate to other drivers that it was stopping? Authorities should consider these questions as they investigate this crash.
The answers should be found in evidence from the scene, witness statements, the vehicles’ engine control modules and any available video of the accident, but if questions linger about any mechanical problems with the Mercury an independent expert may be needed. Such examinations are best conducted in a laboratory setting, not at the side of the road.
