Dallas County, TX — March 22, 2024, one person was injured in a motorcycle versus truck accident at approximately 5:30 p.m. along the Dallas North Tollway.
According to authorities, an International box truck was traveling in the center of the three northbound lanes on the Dallas North Tollway approaching the exit ramp for Frankford Road when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the truck made a sudden lane change to the right from the center lane across the right-most lane and the gore area in order to take the exit. There, it reportedly struck a motorcycle occupied by a 35-year-old man which had also apparently been taking the Frankford Road exit. Reports state that the motorcycle and its occupant both flipped several times before coming to rest in the right shoulder of the exit ramp. The truck came to a stop in the gore area between the ramp and the main lanes of the tollway.
The motorcyclist was reportedly severely hurt due to the wreck; he was taken to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries have been reported. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

When truck drivers make sudden lane changes to reach an exit, they put themselves and others at significant risk. While it can be tempting for truckers to change lanes quickly to avoid missing an exit ramp, it’s their responsibility to anticipate their exit and merge carefully, ensuring the way is clear and safe. Failure to do so often results in devastating accidents, especially when motorcyclists are nearby.
From a legal perspective, the primary issue is whether the truck driver exercised reasonable care when changing lanes. Commercial drivers should always plan their movements well in advance and give other drivers plenty of warning. If they don’t, then the trucking company may have failed to provide the training and oversight necessary to reinforce these safety practices.
It’s also worth investigating whether the company’s scheduling policies could have pressured the driver to take unnecessary risks. Unrealistic timelines might encourage drivers to prioritize speed over safety. When that happens, it often leads to disastrous results.
A closer look at the truck’s electronic logging data could reveal distractions or fatigue that affected the driver’s ability to change lanes safely. If the driver felt rushed or was inattentive, those factors would help explain the decision to make an abrupt lane change.
Ultimately, it’s crucial that truck drivers take extra precautions when making lane changes. They need to ensure they have ample space and that their actions won’t jeopardize other drivers.
