How Did This Accident Occur?

Every day, I speak to folks with all kinds of questions and opinions about various accidents. There are two types of accidents where I most often see people jump to conclusions: single-vehicle accidents and motorcycle accidents. This accident happens to be both, and I bet a lot of folks are just assuming the operator was being reckless. To be clear, that is possible. In fact, it’s pretty common. I wouldn’t suggest otherwise. However, I also would not suggest blaming the driver without knowing all the facts.

Whether a vehicle is on two wheels, four, or eighteen, unavoidable things can occur. Tires blow out. Medical emergencies happen. Roads can be in poor condition. Vehicles can have defects. It’s important investigators cover all these bases so nothing important slips through the cracks. If they can’t do that, then it’s important for independent investigators to step in and keep things fair and on track. Whatever happened here, that’s almost always a prudent path forward for victims and families.

If any motorcyclists see this, let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been blamed for something you couldn’t avoid.
