Victoria County, TX — March 17, 2024, Michael Griffith was injured as the result of a car accident at around 10:30 p.m. along F.M. 1090 (Lake Placedo Road).
Details from officials say the crash happened a few miles north of the Calhoun County-Port Lavaca Airport.

According to investigations, 21-year-old Michael Griffith was in a Dodge Ram 1500 going southbound along F.M. 1090. The vehicle apparently went off the right side of the road and into the ditch. It then struck a culvert and overturned repeatedly. Griffith had serious injuries as a result. There did not appear to be anyone else involved.

Single-vehicle wrecks can be particularly challenging due to the fact that they usually involve just a few possible common factors. As a result, investigators can sometimes get tunnel vision and miss other crucial contributing factors.
For example, we had a case not long ago where authorities overlooked a major safety defect. The victim had been thrown from the vehicle, and authorities just assumed they weren’t wearing their seatbelt. Our independent accident reconstruction, though, revealed the seatbelt’s pretensioner failed, so the victim was thrown from their seat despite wearing their seatbelt.
I’m not saying something like that happened here, necessarily. It’s just prudent to know both what authorities are and aren’t investigating if folks are going to get the help they need.
