Hill County, TX — June 30, 2024, Micah Stotts was killed following a commercial truck accident at around 9:45 a.m. along Highway 171.
Authorities say that the crash occurred a few miles outside of Hillsboro near Highway 171 and County Road 3134.

Officials said that 43-year-old Micah Stotts was in a Dodge Ram going westbound on the highway. Up ahead, there was apparently a tractor-trailer slowed or stopped while making a right turn. As it did so, the Dodge crashed into the back of the trailer. Stotts was killed as a result. There were no other confirmed injuries.
Right now, additional details are unavailable.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
People tend to assume rear-end collisions are open-and-shut, but proper investigations have all kinds of factors that need to be ruled out. Likely or not, there could be factors besides just inattention or speeding that contributed to the accident. Not all of them are as avoidable as people would assume.
Did the victim’s vehicle have mechanical defects? Did their airbags and seatbelts function? Was the trailer’s underride bar in good condition? Did the 18-wheeler have working brake lights? Was there any sort of obstruction to visibility at the time of the wreck? Was brake failure a factor? Is this particular location dangerous due to poor signage or poor design that causes commercial trucks to unnecessarily obstruct lanes of travel?
These are just some questions I would expect to see from experienced, professional accident reconstructionists who will ensure that nothing important slips through the cracks. Unfortunately, they’re not the kind of questions I trust authorities alone to ask or answer. It’s one of the reasons I say there really is no such thing as a serious commercial truck wreck. To make sure victims and families are getting the full story they deserve, there usually has to be efforts from independent investigators before victims and families feel confident they’re not missing anything important.
