March 15, 2026, Kristian Lacher lost his life due to a car accident at approximately 5:00 p.m. along State Highway 7.

According to authorities, 31-year-old Kristian Lacher was traveling in a Volkswagen Jetta on S.H. 7 in the vicinity just northeast of the Durham Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Jetta was involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently overturned.

Lacher reportedly sustained fatal injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Contrary to what most people might do, I’m not quick to assume that driver error had something to do with single-vehicle crashes like this one. Statistically, it’s true that human error plays a role in the majority of car accidents. However, over the last thirty years, I’ve learned that just because something happens much of the time, does not mean that it happens all of the time. I’ve analyzed plenty of cases where there were underlying causes with the vehicle that would have gone unnoticed if it had not been for a thorough investigation.

To be clear, I do not know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to suggest a hypothetical. What if, for example, the Jetta was dealing with a steering issue, and that led to a loss of control. On top of that, the vehicle ended up overturning. Many people don’t realize this, but the test that car manufacturers have to pass for rollover prevention doesn’t accurately simulate real life scenarios. I’d be extremely interested to know if there was a design flaw with the Jetta that led it to overturn. After all, Lacher’s injuries might not have been fatal had the vehicle remained safely upright.

If the authorities are being as meticulous and openminded as they should be with this investigation, then they will make sure that the Jetta gets an in-depth vehicle inspection done by a trained professional in a laboratory setting. That way, any underlying issues with the vehicle that played a role in the wreck can be brought to light. However, if the authorities fail to take that step, a third party investigation might have to be considered, just to make sure that all the bases are covered.
