How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to accidents involving young drivers, many people are quick to point the finger at them simply because they might have been less experienced behind the wheel. Over the last thirty years, I’ve learned not to make assumptions, though. Why? Because I’ve seen plenty of cases in that time in which evidence of causes that went against the grain of stereotype ended up being unearthed by the investigations.
To be clear, I’m not insinuating that I know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, the wreck might not even have been caused by driver error at all. A quick Google Maps search will show you that the intersection is controlled by a traffic signal. I understand that it’s not super likely, but what if it was malfunctioning at the time of the wreck and gave contradicting signals to the two drivers involved? Traffic lights, while excellent tools, are not infallible.
Hopefully the authorities are being as thorough and openminded as they should be as they investigation. If things look as though they are being shortsighted, then a third party investigation can always be brought on to look over things, as well. Besides, it never hurts to have a second perspective ensure that nothing important falls through the cracks. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve real answers backed by solid evidence. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation just won’t cut it.
