Accident Report
Jacksonville, FL — April 2, 2026, four students were injured in a school bus accident at about 10:30 a.m. on Zoo Parkway/State Road 105.
Authorities said a Duval County Public Schools bus was stopped at a railroad crossing near Imeson Park Boulevard when it was hit from behind by a semi-truck.
Four Kindergarten students from San Pablo Elementary School were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after the crash, according to authorities. The bus had been taking an unspecified number of students on a field trip to the Jacksonville Zoo.
No other injuries were reported.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Duval County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Everyone who reads about this crash likely will assume it was the truck driver’s fault for not watching the road ahead, but that may not be what happened here.
What if the bus didn’t have working break lights? Then the onus could be on the school district or its maintenance provider.
What if the truck has a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? Then attention would turn to the trucking company that put it on the road.
I have no way of knowing if either of these scenarios played out near the Jacksonville Zoo, but investigators owe it to the injured students and their families to complete a thorough investigation and determine exactly how this crash happened. That means scrutinizing available dashcam video and data from both vehicles, which likely will be more reliable than eyewitness accounts of the accident.
The families affected by this crash, even those whose children didn’t complain of immediate injuries, deserve answers, but those will come only if investigators ask the right questions.
