Montague County, TX — April 7, 2023, Charles Bryan Sims sustained fatal injuries as the result of an accident involving a UTV along Highway 175.
Right now, few if any sources besides Bowie News Online discuss the crash. Initial details about the accident say that it happened at around 9:45 p.m. in the area of Highway 175 a couple miles north of the town of Montague.

Details suggest that 58-year-old Charles Bryan Sims was driving a UTV at the time. It appears that the UTV lost control at some point, causing it to crash into an embankment with a creek. Details suggest that Sims became trapped “by the cage bars”, and it took firefighters to free Sims. Ultimately, he succumbed to fatal injuries. It’s unclear if there were other injuries.

Details right now are scarce, but some things attributed to the Montague County Sheriff’s Department stood out to me. What exactly did they mean by the UTV bars trapping the victim in the creek? Was it due to the victim being ejected and then tragically pinned beneath the vehicle? Were they caught up in the construction of the vehicle? Would the victim have been okay had they not been trapped?
I certainly can’t shed light on anything not already known to the public, but I’ve learned that even small details can be worth attention when they seem a bit unusual. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for everything that happened here and for how authorities described the events. Simple or complex, it’s important the victim’s loved ones know they’re at least getting the whole story.
