San Augustine County, TX — April 14, 2025, Candi Vincent was killed in a suspected drunk driving accident at about 4:40 p.m. on State Highway 21.
A preliminary accident report indicates an eastbound 2023 Chevrolet Traverse collided with a westbound 1005 Chevrolet Silverado east of San Augustine.
Silverado driver Candi Renee Bernius Vincent, 62, died in the crash, according to the report.
The driver of the Traverse, who also suffered serious injuries in the crash, had been drinking, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the San Augustine County crash.

When authorities suspect alcohol played a role in a deadly crash like this, it’s important to ask more than just what happened on the road. Just as important is asking, where did the drinking occur, and was it allowed to go too far?
According to early reports, the driver believed to have caused the crash had been drinking prior to the collision, which left another driver dead and themselves seriously injured. That kind of detail should prompt a deeper investigation; not just into the crash, but into how that driver came to be impaired in the first place.
Texas dram shop laws exist for exactly this reason. They make it unlawful for alcohol providers — bars, restaurants and other licensed establishments — to serve someone who is already obviously intoxicated. When they ignore that responsibility and the person they overserve causes harm, the law allows them to be held accountable.
At 4:40 in the afternoon, it’s worth asking whether the driver had recently come from a place of business that continued serving them despite clear signs of intoxication. If so, that’s not a small detail. It’s a critical part of understanding the full scope of what led to this crash.
From where I sit, determining where the alcohol came from is essential. Not just for the sake of those directly affected, but to ensure any business that played a role doesn’t continue putting others at risk.
