Accident Report
March 18, 2026, Alyssa Cogar was injured due to a truck accident at approximately 8:00 a.m. along State Highway 105.
According to authorities, 22-year-old Alyssa Cogar was traveling in a Kia Rio at the S.H. 105 and Keith Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a Mack Truck entered the intersection at an unsafe time, purportedly failing to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. A collision consequently occurred between the front-end of the Kia and the rear-end of the Mack truck.
Cogar reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Glancing at this accident, most people would be quick to slap all the blame on the driver of the Mack truck. While that is tempting, I’ve analyzed enough truck accidents over the years not to make assumptions. While driver error could certainly have been a factor, we won’t know for sure until after the investigation is complete and the findings are made public. After all, there could have been underlying causes connected to the truck itself.
To be transparent, I do not know more than anyone else outside of the investigation about this specific collision. I just want to suggest a hypothetical. What if the truck was dealing with brake failure at the time of the accident and that was why it entered the intersection at an unsafe time? I understand that it is not likely, but unlikely does not equate to impossible. An in-depth vehicle inspection will be able to either rule out brake failure as a cause or bring it to light—not to mention any other underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects.
Additionally, if it turns out that some sort of mechanical malfunction was at play, it would be prudent for investigators to look into the truck’s company, just to make sure that corners were not cut on regular vehicle inspections and maintenance that are designed to catch things like this before unsafe trucks are put out on public roadways. If authorities seem to be shortsighted in their investigation, a third party investigation can always step in to make sure all the bases are being appropriately covered. After all, on her road to recovery, Alyssa Cogar deserves to have detailed answers backed by solid evidence, not simple assumptions and a half-hearted investigation.
