Accident Report
July 23, 2026, two people sustained injuries following a van versus 18-wheeler accident at 4:30 a.m. along Interstate 94.
Preliminary information about the accident says that it happened along northbound lanes and extended to southbound lanes near Golf Road in the Franksville area.
Authorities said that there was a Sprinter van going slowly along I-94 for unclear reasons. As it did so, an approaching 18-wheeler reportedly crashed into the van. This led to the semi veering through the median and catching fire.
As a result of the crash, authorities say two people went to the hospital with supposedly minor injuries. Another person reportedly refused treatment. Right now, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
At this time of day, a van moving slowly on the interstate can certainly be dangerous. The question, though, is if the van was visible and avoidable. For example, I handled a crash a while back where a semi-truck hit a disabled car on the highway. The truck driver claimed the car didn’t have its lights on. However, we got video of the crash, and it clearly showed that the car had its hazards activated, and the truck driver simply wasn’t paying attention to the road. Maybe that isn’t what happened here, but securing evidence to help show if this van was reasonably avoidable will be important going forward. Hopefully authorities are working to collect electronic data or possible witness testimony that could help explain the events leading up to the collision.
