Accident Report
February 16, 2026, two people were injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident at approximately 12:45 a.m. along State Highway 356.
According to authorities, a 26-year-old man was traveling in an eastbound Nissan Rogue on Pioneer Drive at the S.H. 356 intersection when the accident took place. The intersection is controlled by a traffic signal. Officials indicate that a northwest bound Honda Passport that was being driven by a 32-year-old man who had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol purportedly entered the intersection against a red light. A collision consequently occurred between the Nissan and the Honda.
The man from the Rogue reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. The man from the Honda sustained minor injuries, as well. Reports state that authorities have recommended Intoxication Assault charges against the driver of the Honda, as well.
Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I have been doing this job for many, many years—over three decades, in fact. When I read about accidents like this one, I can’t help but to ask, “where did the drunk driver get their alcohol?” Leave a comment on this post if you are wondering why it matters. Allow me to explain.
Most states—Texas included—have a tool called Dram Shop Law in place which allows a business that sells alcohol to be held responsible if it serves alcohol to someone who is clearly intoxicated and that person later causes harm. So, in this case, if the intoxicated driver was overserved somewhere, then the establishment where he was overserved had a hand in the outcome of this accident, despite the fact that the person who sold him the alcohol was not at the scene.
I hope investigators take the time and effort necessary to look past what is most apparent at the scene of the accident in order to unearth everything that may have led up to it. That way, everyone responsible can be held accountable.
