Port Arthur, TX — December 24, 2023, two people were injured in a single-car accident shortly before 12:15 a.m. along 9th Avenue.
According to reports, two women ages 19 and 22 were traveling in a westbound Hyundai Elantra on Blackberry Lane at the 9th Avenue intersection when the accident took place.
The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reported to have been rainy and wet. Officials indicate that, for unknown reasons, the Elantra failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and proceeded to attempt a left turn onto southbound 9th Avenue. The vehicle reportedly failed to safely complete the maneuver, veering off of the right side of the road and colliding with a tree near the southwest corner of the intersection.
Both women incurred suspected severe injuries as a result of the crash. They were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of those involved—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
