UPDATE: According to a preliminary investigation summary from OSHA, 37-year-old Sergio Alvarez was killed while preparing delivery trucks for unloading. While doing so, a grain storage bin apparently collapsed, and Alvarez was crushed. Additional details about other workers involved weren’t included. In the OSHA summary, officials listed three citations for alleged violations, including two labeled as “serious.” Right now, the case status appears to still be open.

Bee County, TX — July 4, 2023, Sergio “Jason” Alvarez was killed as the result of a grain elevator accident on Tuesday in the Tynan area.

Authorities from the surrounding area were called to the area after the collapse to transport one patient and search for another.

According to initial statements, two workers were involved when a grain elevator silo somehow collapsed. This resulted in one worker being injured and another requiring rescue. Authorities say they located the worker Tuesday night with fatal injuries.

They identified the victim as Sergio Jason Alvarez. The condition of the other worker at this time is unavailable. Currently, additional details about the accident are under investigation.
