Accident Report
Monahans, TX — February 11, 2026, Taylyn Garduno and another person were injured in a truck accident at about 7:45 p.m. on Interstate 20.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a westbound 2025 Volkswagen Atlas collided with a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe that has been disabled after crashing into the median barrier near exit 80. A 2023 Freightliner semi-truck subsequently hit the Volkswagen.
Volkswagen driver Taylyn Garduno, 18, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.
The Chevrolet driver suffered serious injuries as well, the report states. He is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The truck driver was not hurt, according to the report.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Ward County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Where to start with a crash like this? Why did the Chevrolet crash into the median? Did the other two vehicles have enough time to avoid the disabled vehicle? Even where did the Chevrolet driver get his alcohol?
Authorities likely will try to answer the first two questions in their investigation of this crash, but the last one likely will be overlooked, in my experience. Law enforcement investigations typically are contained to the crash site, not the places a driver might have been drinking before getting behind the wheel.
Texas law holds bars and restaurants responsible for injuries caused by someone who was served while obviously intoxicated. I don’t know if that is the case here, but it deserves to be investigated.
