Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, I don’t see any details about charges or citations, nor do I see authorities mentioning specifically who they believe to be responsible for this crash. I can’t confirm anything just by seeing what’s in the news. However, the most up to date images of this intersection I can find clearly show no sort of traffic control for north- and southbound traffic. Does that mean the semi driver simply cut off the victim’s vehicle? If so, why did the truck driver not see the oncoming pickup? Were there obstructions to visibility the news didn’t mention? Was the truck driver simply not looking at the road? Were they just being reckless and thought they could make the turn quickly enough?
My experience tells me there has to be more to this story. Generally speaking, a commercial truck driver doesn’t just cut into the path of an oncoming vehicle in the middle of the afternoon on what appears to be a flat, straight highway. So what really went wrong here, and what kind of consequences might there be as a result?
