Harris County, TX — March 22, 2024, Skylar Mathurin was injured as the result of a car accident at around 11:00 p.m. on the East Freeway.
According to officials, the accident happened in the Channelview area along westbound lanes of I-10 near Dell Dale Street.

Investigators said that 22-year-old Skyla Mathurin was in a Honda CR-V going along the interstate. Somehow, the vehicle lost control, crashed into a barrier, and overturned in the lanes of travel. Mathurin had reportedly serious injuries as a result. Another car apparently hit the disabled Honda, but authorities did not report any injuries associated with that collision.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
With the injury related accident being a single-vehicle crash, my concern is people may be more likely to jump to conclusions. Like any crash, this sort of thing can involve factors drivers may not have control over. Tire failure, defective brakes, road hazards, medical emergencies, etc. But when people see only one driver involved, they just assume that driver must have done something wrong. Is that possible? Sure—in fact, it’s common. That said, jumping to conclusions isn’t going to help anyone, and it actually just risks letting important details slip through the cracks. It’s best, then, that the evidence simply speaks for itself.
