Desoto, TX — August 6, 2025, Shuntavia Sims was injured after a car accident that happened at around 9:38 p.m. along Belt Line Road.
According to officials, the crash took place at the Belt Line Road and North Polk Street intersection.
Investigators said that 34-year-old Shuntavia Sims was in a Chrysler 300 going westbound on Belt Line Road. A Kia Soul going northbound allegedly ran the light, crashing with the Chrysler. Shuntavia Sims reportedly was seriously injured in the crash.
No other injuries were reported. Authorities recommended charges for the Kia driver. No further information is available at this time.

A common mistake I see folks make is that once a driver is facing charges, that makes things open-and-shut for the victims and families. In reality, it usually just scratches the surface.
The fact of the matter is authorities have their own priorities when holding reckless drivers accountable. Getting victims and families back on their feet and seeing someone is held responsible for their hardships following the crash is a whole different process. It’s important folks have the evidence and legal strategies in place to ensure they get the best outcome possible rather than just waiting around assuming authorities will take care of everything on their own.
