Killeen, TX — April 28, 2024, Robert Higgins was killed due to a single-vehicle car accident at midnight on South Fort Hood Street.
Initial details released say the crash took place near the intersection of South Fort Hood Street and Splawn Ranch Drive. It appears the time of the crash is an estimate because emergency services weren’t called until hours after the suspected time of the crash.

According to officials, 59-year-old Robert Nathaniel Higgins was in an Infiniti traveling northbound along the highway. For reasons unconfirmed right now, the vehicle ended up going off the right side of the roadway where it crashed into a ditch. As a result, Higgins was fatally injured. The cause of the accident has yet to be confirmed.

Something I talk about a lot on this blog is how single-vehicle wrecks can present unique challenges when authorities don’t have witnesses or drivers to speak to. Generally, authorities only look into surface-level details after a serious crash. This means that things like possible mechanical issues, medical conditions, defects, road design flaws, or other complex possible factors often slip through the cracks unless a more experienced independent accident reconstructionist is there to fill in the gaps.
So when I read about this accident, supposedly found hours after it happened, I can only imagine how authorities are making up for all of that lost time. It’s entirely possible to gather evidence even that long after a crash. My experience just makes me a bit skeptical authorities are going to have the means to do that without missing something important.
