How Did This Accident Occur?
A crash at a traffic light is usually the result of distracted driving. Cellphone use is particularly common, which is why it should be among the first things investigators look into after a crash. However, people often get so caught up in what’s common that they ignore other possible factors. That can lead to serious oversights.
Just hypothetically, what if all of this happened due to a malfunction with the traffic signal? That’s not at all common, but it can happen. If investigations focus on looking for blame, they might miss crucial evidence that factors beyond the drivers’ control led to the accident.
That’s why I’ve always found it more productive to put the evidence first in a car accident investigation. Keeping all options open and letting the facts tell the story helps bring the truth to light and gives victims and families the best opportunity possible to see a proper resolution. Either authorities can take steps on their own to accomplish that, or families can look to independent professionals if they find authorities aren’t making the grade.
