Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When people hear about crashes like this one, it’s easy for them to assume they are a result of simple driver error. However, in my experience, accidents involving large trucks often require thorough investigations to understand all contributing factors.
In this incident, the circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. It is essential to determine why the Freightliner failed to safely back into the spot beside the Peterbilt truck. Factors such as blind spots, inadequate communication between drivers, or even distractions should be considered. Each of these elements can play a significant role in accidents involving large trucks in confined spaces like parking lots.
One critical aspect of this accident is the severe injury sustained by the pedestrian who was working on the Peterbilt truck. The impact of being trapped between two large vehicles can cause devastating injuries. Investigators need to closely examine whether the truck driver was following all safety protocols for maneuvering in a parking lot and if any external factors, such as poor visibility or obstructions, contributed to the accident.
Additionally, the companies responsible for the Freightliner and the Peterbilt trucks may share in the responsibility for the accident. If either company failed to enforce safety protocols, properly train their drivers, or ensure that their vehicles were parked and maneuvered safely, they could be held accountable for their role in the incident.
Ultimately, the goal is to uncover the truth and provide answers to those affected by the crash. Even if it requires conducting an independent investigation to obtain vital evidence, it is crucial to consider every factor to ensure that those impacted by the crash receive the clarity and closure they deserve.
