Gillespie County, TX — March 21, 2026, one person was injured in a single-vehicle accident at about 10:45 p.m. on F.M. 1888 near Luckenbach.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2020 Toyota Tacoma was heading southeast when it left the road and overturned east of F.M. 1376.

A 21-year-old man riding in the pickup was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report. His name has not been made public yet.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman suffered minor injuries, the report states, while the third passenger, a 21-year-old woman, was not hurt.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Gillespie County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear from initial reports why this pickup went off the road south of Luckenbach. Maybe the driver was distracted, fatigued or even impaired. Maybe he swerved to avoid another vehicle or an object in the road. Maybe the Toyota had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism.

It’s going to take a full investigation to figure out what happened on F.M. 1888, built on facts gleamed from physical evidence, witness statements, data from the pickup and any available video footage. Cell phone records may show what the driver was doing at the time of the crash, but the injured man’s family may need to seek an outside expert if authorities suspect a mechanical issue contributed to this accident.

Most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training to conduct a forensic examination of the pickup, in my experience, but one may be needed to sort out what caused this crash.
