Austin, TX — April 13, 2024, Natalie Tovar and Ruben Gonzalez III were injured following a car accident at around 5:30 p.m. on Johnny Morris Road.
Preliminary information from the authorities says that the accident happened near the intersection of Johnny Morris Road and Breezy Hill Drive.

According to officials, 20-year-old Natalie Tovar was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla being driven southbound on Johnny Morris. 37-year-old Ruben Gonzalez III was in a northbound Honda Accord. It appears the Toyota somehow lost control and veered left of center, causing it to collide with Gonzalez’s vehicle.
Tovar reportedly had serious injuries due to the crash. Gonzalez had reportedly moderate injuries. The driver of the Toyota did not have any reported serious injuries. Right now, additional details are unconfirmed.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
When people see crashes like this, they tend to just assume all of the blame automatically rests with the driver whose vehicle lost control. In reality, things are usually more complex than that. Not only could there have been unavoidable potential factors, there may have been extenuating circumstances surrounding more common factors.
For one, mechanical issues are not something authorities tend to look into in their preliminary investigations. That can mean things like defective brakes, tires, steering mechanisms, or other parts go unnoticed unless independent accident reconstructionists are looking into things. Another possibility I see overlooked a lot is drivers being illegally over-served by bars. Authorities focus their efforts at the crash scene and neglect to address another wrongdoer still out there putting the community in danger.
Maybe nothing like that happened here, of course, but the question is if these and other possibilities are even getting proper attention. I can’t count how often folks asked us to look into things, and we found authorities either let a bunch of information slip through the cracks or outright got some of the facts wrong. If similar shortcomings are happening here, there may still be a lot more to this story that needs to be addressed.
