How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to motorcycle accidents, most people are content to write them off as caused by driver error without giving them a second thought. I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades, though. I think that motorcyclists get a bad rap. Over the years, I’ve seen plenty of motorcycle accidents where, despite how things seemed on the surface, evidence of less likely causes was unearthed by the investigation that went against the grain of the stereotype. That’s why I’m slow to jump to conclusions.
That’s not to insinuate that I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the motorcycle itself to cause the accident. What if, for example, the bike experienced brake failure, or a throttle issue? An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects which might otherwise fly under the radar.
Hopefully, investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done. After all, the victim deserves to have clear answers backed by solid evidence, not vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation. That is especially true since that type of shoddy work would conveniently lay all the blame for the wreck at his own feet.
