UPDATE (July 2, 2025): Authorities identified the motorcyclist killed in the crash as 19-year-old Michael Harrington. In their recent statements, authorities clarify that Michael Harrington was going eastbound on the roadway when the semi-truck reportedly came out of a parking lot.
If that’s true, I handled a case a while back with very similar circumstances, which I lay out in more detail in the Commentary section below. I can’t say this crash would lead to a similar conclusion, but the example does help to give insight on why motorcycle accidents often require prompt and thorough investigations. Readers may find that insight helpful.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
It’s always important to ensure a deadly accident gets thorough investigations as soon as possible. That’s only more important when it comes to crashes involving motorcyclists. Unfortunately, a lot of people are biased against riders, and even authorities can make mistakes if they let that bias get in the way.
For example, I handled a case a while back where authorities blamed a motorcyclist for speeding and weaving through traffic before getting into a crash. The family knew their loved one would never be so reckless, so they asked us to look into things. Through more thorough independent investigations, we found that authorities got it wrong.
It turned out the investigating officer took a witness statement but completely misinterpreted it. The witness testified the motorcyclist simply passed him on the left, then merged back to the right—a totally normal, safe maneuver. Evidence showed it was was actually a truck turning onto the roadway in front of the motorcyclist that led to the accident. The officer simply jumped to conclusions too quickly and ended up filing an inaccurate preliminary report.
In that example, it took a family trusting their gut and having a second set of eyes look things over to finally bring the truth to light. I have no reason right now to believe authorities did anything wrong here, but it’s important for a family to know their loved one’s story is being told fairly. Sometimes, that means taking steps to watch over what authorities are doing rather than waiting around and giving them the chance to make a mistake.
