Washington County, TX — July 21, 2024, Lavania Finley was killed as the result of an ATV accident at around 7:27 p.m. along Sweed Road.
Officials said that the crash took place outside of Navasota northwest of the Sweed Road and TX-105 intersection.
According to investigations, 66-year-old Lavania Finley was on a Honda ATV that was going northbound on Sweed Road. For reasons which aren’t clear, the vehicle went off the roadway where it hit a tree. As a result, Lavania Finley was killed. It does not appear anyone else was involved in the accident.
Right now, no other details can be confirmed.

One of my concerns with accidents involving ATVs is that they’re not standard vehicles, so authorities may not pay them much attention. In my experience, authorities can already be inconsistent when it comes to conducting thorough investigations. Looking into something they’re not used to handling is only going to make it more likely they overlook something important. That said, maybe authorities here have been thorough. All I’m saying is it’s not something folks should take for granted.
