One of the biggest misconceptions about car accidents like this is that they’re straight-forward. Folks see what appears to be a cut-and-dry story, and they figure two passenger vehicles aren’t going to pose much of a challenge to authorities investigating the crash. But the reality is a proper car accident investigation can be incredibly complex.

Things like mechanical issues, medical conditions, roadway hazards, road design flaws, and manufacturers’ defects are not the sort of thing a surface-level investigation can adequately rule out. Unfortunately, elected officials don’t provide officers with the resources needed to conduct such an investigation, which is why the more prudent departments seek out the aid of independent accident reconstructionists. But when authorities don’t put a serious crash in the hands of accident reconstructionists with the proper tools and experience, victims and families may not get the whole story they deserve.
