Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Even if the allegations here are true, people may be quick to assume that this incident is all open-and-shut. However, car accidents don’t always get the attention they need, which means important details can slip through the cracks. While authorities may sometimes take the time and effort to consider all factors and get all evidence, they often move on to other jobs that are deemed a higher priority.
This is why I get so many calls from folks who feel that they’re not getting the answers they need after a crash. It’s one of the reasons why independent investigations are generally a more reliable tool. Since they can look into all kinds of factors—including potential vehicle defects, road design, signage and lighting, and possible footage from nearby cameras—they can leave as little room for doubt as possible. That’s a powerful tool for any family to have at their disposal while on a journey to get back on their feet.
