How Did This Accident Occur?

When vehicles going the opposite direction collide, that’s usually because someone lost control of their vehicle. People may be quick to assume that means that driver made a mistake, but that isn’t always true. That’s why it’s important to consider even unlikely possible factors—especially when there’s a driver who isn’t around to tell their side of the story.

For example, have authorities looked into the possibility of a vehicle defect? Brake failure, steering issues, faulty tires, and even software issues with lane assistance or crash avoidance systems can easily lead to a vehicle crossing over the center line. That stuff takes careful and thorough inspections to either confirm or rule out. That’s not the sort of thing authorities tend to look into on their own. If authorities here didn’t bring in outside help to inspect the vehicles, important details could slip through the cracks.

That’s just one possibility, but I’ve had far too many car accident cases where we found authorities never even bothered looking into possible defects. That’s why it can help for victims and families to follow up with authorities. If they looked into complex possible factors like a vehicle defect, that’s generally a sign they’re being thorough. If they didn’t look into that, though, what else might they be overlooking?
