Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Believe it or not, single-vehicle wrecks like what’s described here are some of the most complex ones to investigate. It isn’t necessarily that there’s always challenging factors surrounding them. It’s that there could be unusual factors to investigate, but authorities rarely do.

Things like mechanical defects, road hazards, drivers being illegally over-served by a bar, faulty tires and brakes, and other such details tend to go overlooked. Instead, the assumption is just that the driver must have done something wrong. As possible (and frankly common) as that is, jumping to conclusions only risks letting something important slip through the cracks. I would certainly be glad to hear authorities in this incident were more thorough, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they overlooked details that need to be brought to light.
