Accident Report
El Paso, TX — April 6, 2026, Jaime Andrade was killed in a hit-and-run accident at about 9:15 p.m. in the 6300 block of North Desert Boulevard.
Authorities said a 2016 BMW 428i crashed into several vehicles, including a 2026 Subaru Outback, south of Artcraft Road.
Subaru driver Jaime Humberto Andrade, 56, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to authorities.
The BMW driver fled on foot after the crash, but she subsequently was arrested at a house on Rosa Gandara Drive, authorities said. She was charged with collision involving death.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the El Paso County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people who read about this crash probably would assume the BMW driver caused this crash because she was distracted, fatigued or even impaired. That may prove to be the case, but more than 30 years of being involved in accident investigations has taught me it is best not to reach any conclusions until the investigation is complete. Investigations should be based on facts, not assumptions.
Investigators will gather facts by poring over evidence from the scene, witness statements, data from the vehicles and available video footage of the crash. Cell phone records could show if any of the drivers were texting or interacting with an app at the time of the accident.
If authorities suspect the BMW had a mechanical issue that contributed to this crash, an independent expert likely would be needed to conduct a forensic examination of the vehicle. That is beyond the capability of most law enforcement agencies, in my experience, but it could be necessary to ensure the victim’s family gets much-needed answers about this crash.
