Accident Report

Thousand Palms, CA — April 14, 2026, George Mauricio was killed and another was injured in a truck accident at about 7:50 a.m. on Interstate 10/Sonny Bono Memorial Freeway.

Authorities said an eastbound semi-truck lost control and hit three other vehicles before crashing through the median and hitting a westbound concrete truck west of Washington Street. A Jeep crashed into semi as both trucks caught fire.

Concrete truck driver George Mauricio, 62, of Yucca Valley was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, according to authorities.

The semi driver was hospitalized with major injuries, authorities said, while six other people were treated at the scene by emergency personnel.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Riverside County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

A crash like this warrants a full investigation into the semi-truck driver who allegedly caused this crash and the trucking company that put it on the road.

It is not clear how this accident unfolded at this point, but in my experience “lost control” is law enforcement jargon for no one knows exactly what happened. That is understandable for now, given the number of vehicles involved in this crash on I-10, but the ongoing investigation definitely needs to yield some answers for those affected by this accident.

Why did the semi-truck driver lose control of his vehicle? Was he distracted, or did the vehicle have some kind of mechanical issue? Was the issue the result of a manufacturer’s defect, or some faulty maintenance work? Those questions apply to the trucking company, which was responsible for hiring and training this driver.

Investigators must get to the bottom of these issues to ensure the victims of this crash know who is responsible for it.
