Fort Stockton Car Accident on I-10 in Pecos County, TX

It appears that a 34-year-old Fort Stockton woman, a 26-year-old woman, and a child were in a Hyundai Elantra going along I-10. While doing so, the vehicle somehow lost control, causing it to veer off the right side of the roadway. There, the vehicle overturned.

Due to the crash, the Fort Stockton woman sustained serious injuries. The other woman had moderate injuries while the child apparently wasn’t injured.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

One of the main concerns following any single-vehicle wreck is simply whether or not authorities gave it the attention it deserves. They’re not often seen as a high priority, so authorities may jump to conclusions or move on without actually getting all the facts. As common as driver error is, the goal shouldn’t be rushing to blame someone. It should be gathering evidence and letting the facts speak for themselves. This has to include asking questions that aren’t often in a preliminary police investigation.

Did the vehicle have any defects? Were there issues with the road itself? Did a tire blow out? Did airbags and seatbelts function properly? Do accidents happen in this area a lot? Were there any residences or businesses nearby that may have had a camera that caught the accident on video? Did authorities take down the information of any witnesses who were at the scene?

Asking these questions will sometimes give authorities the chance to provide clear, sensible answers and prove they took every possible step to investigate a crash properly. On the other hand, they may not be able to come up with satisfactory answers, which can give victims and families an opportunity to have other investigators pick up the slack and final get the crash the attention it needs.
