Bureau County, IL — June 23, 2023, one person was killed and one was injured following an 18-wheeler accident Friday afternoon on I-80.
Authorities said that the accident happened along eastbound lanes at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the area of Route 40. It apparently involved at least three commercial trucks.
Preliminary information at this time says that a tractor-trailer that was going westbound along the interstate. Due to events not yet clear, the truck careened across the median and into eastbound lanes. There, it crashed head-on with another semi. A third semi then crashed, as well.
As a result of the crash, details suggest the driver of the truck that crossed over the median died due to the accident. One of the other truck drivers was taken to a hospital. The third driver apparently had no injuries. Right now, further details about the crash are still under investigation.
