Cameron County, TX — June 7, 2024, Eriberto Montanez was killed as the result of a car accident at around 9:00 p.m. along Green Valley Farms Street.
According to officials, the accident happened in the area of Green Valley Farms Street and Crab Hole Lane.
Investigators said that 30-year-old Eriberto Montanez was in a Mercedes-Benz going southbound on Green Valley Farms. The vehicle apparently went off the side of the road where it crashed into a mailbox and eventually into a drainage ditch. As a result, Montanez was killed. There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the accident, authorities said.

Whenever it comes to single vehicle accidents, I have to wonder if they’re getting the attention they deserve. Frankly, they’re not always seen as a high priority. As such, authorities can miss some of the more complex possible factors that can lead to these accidents. Was there a mechanical issue? Did a tire blowout? Was the victim over-served by an alcohol provider? Did they experience a medical emergency? Is there something wrong with this particular stretch of road? Likely or not, these things happen, and they deserve to be investigated thoroughly. Either the family can learn something that otherwise would have slipped through the cracks, or they can move forward confident they’re at least getting the whole story.
