Accident Report

April 14, 2026, Deborah Cotie was injured due to a car accident just before 9:15 a.m. along Early Boulevard.

According to authorities, 71-year-old Deborah Cotie was traveling in a southwest bound Chevrolet Trax on Early Boulevared at the C C Woodson intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Kia Soul occupied by a 57-year-old man entered the intersection at an unsafe time, purportedly failing to heed the signal given by the traffic light. A collision consequently occurred between the Kia and the Chevrolet.

Cotie reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the wreck. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people who look at this accident will be hyper focused on the collision, itself. To be clear, I don’t want to mitigate the importance of the fact that the Kia allegedly entered the intersection at an unsafe time and caused the wreck. It’s just that I’ve been doing this job for over thirty years. It’s because of the number of car accidents that I’ve analyzed over that time that I am interested to know whether or not the safety features of the Chevrolet Trax functioned as they should have.

How is it that the victim ended up with serious injuries? Did it’s airbags deploy correctly and in a timely manner? Did the seatbelt function like it was designed to? You might be wondering why this even matters. Well, if these things were faulty, then it is possible that the victim’s injuries ended up being more severe than they should have been. An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bring any issues like that to light, rather than just allowing them to slide under the radar.

Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—take the time and put in the effort necessary to get one one, even though it is not generally routine. After all, the victim of this accident deserves to understand why things turned out the way they did. That kind of clarity simply can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.

What do you think of my assessment and suggestions? Do you agree that the safety features need to be examined for their effectiveness, or am I just brewing a storm in a teapot? Let me know in a comment below.
