Denton, TX — April 6, 2024, Dalton Woods was injured following an alleged drunk driver accident at around 5:30 a.m. on West University Drive.
According to authorities, the crash happened at the intersection of West University Drive and North Elm Street.

It appears that 27-year-old Dalton Woods was in a Ford Escape at the time. After exiting a parking lot, authorities say Woods began going eastbound. While doing so, it appears a Ford Fiesta traveling the wrong way crashed head-on into Woods. Woods reportedly had serious injuries as a result.

According to authorities, the driver of the Fiesta was under the influence of alcohol. If that’s true, it frankly wouldn’t be at all surprising. When people get on the wrong side of a divided roadway, it’s almost always due to intoxicated driving. But more than that, it’s usually a sign of extreme intoxication. That’s when there needs to be investigations into whether or not a local alcohol provider illegally over-served that driver.
Not long ago, for example, I had a case involving details similar to these. A driver unaware of his surroundings got onto the wrong side of the road and hit a family head-on, seriously injuring a young kid. They called us, and we retraced that driver’s steps to a local bar where the man had been taking advantage of a happy hour. Evidence showed the bar served him drink after drink until he could barely walk, let alone drive. It was clear they broke the law, and they were on the hook for their role in the crash.
What’s frustrating, though, is that authorities rarely conduct those kinds of investigations on their own. Anything beyond the drivers and the crash scene itself tends to slip through the cracks. As a result, a lot of negligent bars avoid responsibility despite playing a role in a serious or deadly crash. That happens all too often, and it’s the main reason I shine a light on these crashes whenever possible. It’s important folks know there are steps they can take to ensure all parties responsible for these accident are held accountable. Hopefully those steps are taken here.
