How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports indicate that a westbound Toyota Corolla caused this crash after entering the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 82, but the important question is why.

Was the driver distracted, or was there some kind of problem with her vehicle? An issue with the Toyota’s steering mechanism could explain why it left its lane, but that is just speculation without a thorough investigation.

Those affects by this crash deserve answers that can only come after a review of physical evidence at the scene, data from the vehicles involved and witness statements. A mechanical examination of the Toyota may be needed to determine if it malfunctioned before the crash, but that likely will call for an outside expert’s review, since many law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or training for such inspections.
