Virginia Beach, VA — June 22, 2023, Christopher A. Scott perished when his semi-truck went over the side of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel around 2 p.m. in Virginia Beach.
Officials report the victim was heading north on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel (CBBT) in a semi-truck owned by Keep It Moving 22, LLC when his truck somehow veered off the bridge toward the west side. The semi-truck reportedly went right through the metal guardrail and fell into the water.
The U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Beach police, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and the CBBT Police reportedly worked together in recovery efforts that lasted overnight and stretched into the morning of June 23.
Mr. Scott’s body, along with the truck cabin, was recovered around 3 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023.
Witnesses reportedly told authorities a tire allegedly popped on the vehicle, but this has not been confirmed by authorities. Investigators warn it could take some time to learn what factors led up to the crash.
