San Antonio, TX — May 10, 2024, two people were injured following a work accident at around 12:30 a.m. at the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange.
According to officials, the accident happened at the interchange during a construction project. The current information about the incident says two workers were in a cherry picker basket working to connect steal beams to support columns. For reasons unclear, a beam fell on the cherry picker, knocking over the machine. Due to this, both workers had reportedly serious injuries. No further information is available right now.
I find there’s a general misconception when it comes to work accidents like this. A lot of folks think OSHA and workers’ comp have everything covered. In reality, things aren’t always so simple. In fact, Texas has the most complex work accident law of any other state since employers aren’t required to subscribe to workers’ comp. So for some workers and families, an accident like this creates a legal maze that can be challenging to navigate without the right tools. So finding out what went wrong here is just one part of the challenge. Finding out what comes next for the victims and their families is another challenge entirely.
