UPDATE: (April 12, 2024): The man who lost his life as a result of this wrong-way car accident has been identified as 22-year-old Bret Austin Dabney, of Shepherd, Texas.
Houston, TX — April 11, 2024, two people were killed in a wrong-way car accident at approximately 4:00 a.m. along Interstate Highway 69.
According to authorities, a woman was traveling in a southbound vehicle in the northbound lanes of I.H. 69 in the vicinity of Rankin Road when the accident took place.
Due to this wrong way situation, a head-on collision occurred with an oncoming vehicle occupied by a 22-year-old man. The man incurred fatal injuries as a result of the wreck and was declared deceased at the scene. The woman sustained reportedly critical injuries and was rushed to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive immediate treatment. However, she was ultimately unable to overcome the extent of her injuries, having later been declared deceased.
Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
