Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
Right now, further information is unavailable. With single-vehicle wrecks, one of my main concerns is if authorities are taking proper steps to get all the facts. I don’t mean to sound overly skeptical, but I get calls all the time from families who feel they were left with unanswered questions. Many of those calls are concerning single-vehicle wrecks. Why is that?
The reality is authorities don’t often see accidents like this as a high priority. As a result, they sometimes move on without getting all the facts, or they may jump to conclusions based on what they feel are likely explanations, regardless of evidence. This can leave less common or more challenging factors untouched. Was the vehicle defective? Did a tire blowout? Was the victim unlawfully over-served by a bar? Did someone run them off the road? Is the road itself hazardous? Did a medical condition lead to the crash?
Likely or not, independent investigators who are more experienced with single-vehicle wrecks know that a stone left unturned is a potential question left unanswered. Considering all possibilities, then, should be the priority so families can get the resolution they deserve following a deadly crash. I can only wonder if authorities have been taking the steps to ensure that happens here.
